“Evolution”… is an award winning body of work based on traditional Greek folk rhythms with classical, jazz and urban influences. Described by some as a “musical marriage” between the piano and the bouzouki, the select orchestration of flute, soprano saxophone and rhythm section leaves you with a sound Niokos enjoys calling Contemporary Greek.

Evolution is the result of a four-year journey in search for a connection to my Hellenic roots. While on this journey, I discovered that music enabled me to embrace and celebrate the true power of multiculturalism. Where I once felt the tug-of-war between two conflicting cultures, I now embrace the strength of belonging to more than one. Evolution has been awarded:

• Best Music in Dance Theatre Competition, (Crete, Greece)
• Best Instrumental Album – 2003 Greek Canadian Music Awards Music (Toronto, Canada)
• Nominated Best Instrumental Album – 2002 Canadian Independent Music Awards Indies.

The band has performed Main Stages in and round around southern Ontario, to include;  Celebrate Toronto Street Fest;  The Krinos Foods, Taste of the Danforth and It’s Your Festival, Canada Day Celebrations. Additional tours have included Thessaloniki Greece for the annual Elliniada music festival. The band has performed for various fund-raising organizations in support of Canadian Athletes – See You In Athens Fund, Music Education – Closer to the Heart, and Humanitarian efforts by Catherine Collective for the building a Woman and Children’s Clinic, Jalalabad, Afghanistan.
